531 Avenue of the Americas

CMI was brought into this project to design, fabricate and install a geometrically complex façade under a compressed schedule. CMI’s design strategy on the project was to install as much of the metal cladding as possible onto the curtain wall panels in the factory, eliminating the time and imprecision associated with field installation. Nearly all of the metal panels seen on the faced were able to installed in the factory in this manner, with the exception of the field-installed soffit panels. Although the fabrication process was extremely detailed and tedious, the result is a beautiful facade where the many required joints, splices and corners line up almost perfectly. The curtain wall also features motorized parallel opening vents. Other scope by CMI includes terrace doors, glass handrails, metal coping, stick storefront, entrances with glass vestibules, and entrance canopy.
